We are excited to announce that St. John of the Cross has a new logo! This logo symbolizes what I think our patron saint, St. John of the Cross is all about the Cross. No one can sperate the Cross from St. John of the Cross and I think this logo shows that and that is why we wanted the Cross to be part of the “J” in the initials of St. John of the Cross. For me I see the Cross first and then the “J” and then the “S” and “C”. We wanted to see the Cross first because everything that we do is geared towards Christ and carrying our own crosses. Also, the Cross is at the heart of our logo, and we want the Cross to be the heart of our community and everything that we do is formed around it. Be assured that Jesus is there to help carry our own crosses and St. John of the Cross is there to intercede for us. St. John of the Cross chose not to go away from his crosses, and we should be like him and carrying our own crosses.

Another element of the new logo is the “J” and the Cross look like a fishhook because we as Christians are supposed to bring people closer to Christ with everything that we do. Along with the Cross and St. John of the Cross, we cannot get away from hooking people with our actions and words and we should strive to conform our actions and words to what Christ did. We wanted the fishhook to remind everyone that we the Parishioners of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church are to hook people and make them feel welcome with everything that we do.

We choose the colors of marron and gold because if you look up at the back of the Church when you are leaving you will see the banner (picture below) that has been with this Church since it was meeting in a school before we even got this land and built the church. These colors have been with us the whole time and we wanted honor all the past people that have been through St. John of the Cross and have seen these same colors on the banner.

Also, if you look at the bottom part of the version right above, which is our letter head, you will see the same lines that is on our tabernacle (picture below), again bringing it back to our source and summit which is Jesus. Jesus is everything for us Christians and we were trying find something that is really recognized if anyone spent some time praying in our church and spending time with Jesus, you cannot miss those line a little bit below our tabernacle.

We hope you enjoy the logo as much as we do, and you will start to see it rolled out on different things that we have. Let this new logo remind ourselves to center ourselves and the whole community around the person that really matter and that is Jesus Christ who died on the Cross for us. He did all this because he loves us.

St. John of the Cross, pray for us!

May God Bless you,

Fr. Michael
