“Lord, I love you” “Lord, I love you.” These are powerful last words by a good and faithful servant, Pope Benedict XVI. In everything that he did, those were words that he lived by and is something that we all should live by as well. These words should be the reason we are here, the reason we are Christians, the way we live our lives. Lord, I love you.
These words fit perfectly into the Epiphany today because of the Magi, coming to see the Lord, because they love him. They traveled a great distance to give royal treasures and to give him praise and honor. They knew something was special about this child and they wanted to see him.
Brothers and sisters, this is something that is wonderful and great and something that we should bring into our own lives. Is everything that we do form around the words “Lord, I love you?” If not let us work on that because that will center our lives on God and God alone. It is easy to focus upon things of this world, work, money, children, frame, power, and all of this can be enticing, but we need to reject that and only follow God. The reason we should follow God and not the world is because we are made for God and nothing else. We are made to be with God and nothing else, we were made in the image and likeness of God and if we try to fill the space for infinite God with things that are finite, then we will never be satisfied. We will always want more and more. That is why the feelings of happiness and joy fades away if they are rooted in things, but when they are from God, then they last a lot longer. Our true happiness come from God and God alone.
When we genuinely love the Lord, we will want to please him in everything that we can do. We will want to act good and not sin because we do not want to make him unhappy. Just like anyone that we love, children, spouse, parents, family members, we want to make them happy and not in pain. We should do the same thing with God. How do we do that? First, trying to do what is right and good. Be kind to everyone, show them love and respect. This especially includes the people that we do not like. When we show everyone love and respect, we are showing that they have dignity and every human being has dignity because they are human, they are made in the image and likeness of God. That is why most of the Ten Commandments are about loving our neighbor. God is showing us the importance of loving God and our neighbor. All we must do is look at the life of Jesus. He was kind and loving to everyone. We are called to do the same.
When we love God, we will love the people that he created, which includes ourselves. Are you insecure about ourselves? Is there something that we are not happy about in our lives? God made you and you are perfect in the eyes of God. There is not one thing that you can do to change that. You are made exactly the way you are, and it might be good to accept that. This does not mean we cannot improve or do better, this just means that there are somethings that we cannot change, and God does not want you to change. So, love yourself.
Brothers and sister, Pope Benedict XVI last words are something we should take to heart and make them part of our own lives. There are plenty of other things that are involved with these words, and I encourage each of us to pray about these and see what else they might mean in your life because in the end I pray that our last words will be, “Lord, I love you.”
“Señor, te amo” “Señor, te amo”. Estas son las últimas palabras poderosas de un buen y fiel servidor, el Papa Benedicto XVI. En todo lo que hizo, esas fueron palabras por las que vivió y es algo por lo que todos deberíamos vivir también. Estas palabras deberían ser la razón por la que estamos aquí, la razón por la que somos cristianos, la forma en que vivimos nuestras vidas. Señor, te amo.
Estas palabras encajan perfectamente en la Epifanía de hoy a causa de los Magos, viniendo a ver al Señor, porque lo aman. Viajaron una gran distancia para entregar tesoros reales y darle alabanza y honor. Sabían que había algo especial en este niño y querían verlo.
Hermanos y hermanas, esto es algo maravilloso y grandioso y algo que debemos traer a nuestras propias vidas. ¿Todo lo que hacemos se forma alrededor de las palabras “Señor, te amo”? Si no, trabajemos en eso porque eso centrará nuestras vidas en Dios y solo en Dios. Es fácil enfocarse en las cosas de este mundo, el trabajo, el dinero, los hijos, el marco, el poder, y todo esto puede ser tentador, pero debemos rechazar eso y solo seguir a Dios. La razón por la que debemos seguir a Dios y no al mundo es porque estamos hechos para Dios y nada más. Estamos hechos para estar con Dios y nada más, fuimos hechos a imagen y semejanza de Dios y si tratamos de llenar el espacio del Dios infinito con cosas que son finitas, entonces nunca estaremos satisfechos. Siempre vamos a querer más y más. Por eso los sentimientos de felicidad y alegría se desvanecen si están enraizados en las cosas, pero cuando son de Dios, entonces duran mucho más. Nuestra verdadera felicidad viene de Dios y solo de Dios.
Cuando amamos genuinamente al Señor, querremos agradarle en todo lo que podamos hacer. Querremos actuar bien y no pecar porque no queremos hacerlo infeliz. Al igual que cualquier persona que amamos, hijos, cónyuge, padres, miembros de la familia, queremos hacerlos felices y no sufrir. Deberíamos hacer lo mismo con Dios. ¿Como hacemos eso? Primero, tratando de hacer lo que es correcto y bueno. Sea amable con todos, muéstreles amor y respeto. Esto incluye especialmente a las personas que no nos gustan. Cuando mostramos a todos amor y respeto, estamos demostrando que tienen dignidad y todo ser humano tiene dignidad porque es humano, está hecho a imagen y semejanza de Dios. Es por eso que la mayoría de los Diez Mandamientos tratan sobre amar a nuestro prójimo. Dios nos está mostrando la importancia de amar a Dios ya nuestro prójimo. Todo lo que debemos hacer es mirar la vida de Jesús. Era amable y cariñoso con todos. Estamos llamados a hacer lo mismo.
Cuando amamos a Dios, amaremos a las personas que él creó, lo que nos incluye a nosotros mismos. ¿Eres inseguro de nosotros mismos? ¿Hay algo que no nos hace felices en nuestras vidas? Dios te hizo y eres perfecto a los ojos de Dios. No hay nada que puedas hacer para cambiar eso. Estás hecho exactamente como eres, y sería bueno aceptarlo. Esto no significa que no podamos mejorar o hacerlo mejor, solo significa que hay algunas cosas que no podemos cambiar, y Dios no quiere que tú cambies. Entonces, ámate a ti mismo.
Hermanos y hermanas, las últimas palabras del Papa Benedicto XVI son algo que debemos tomar en serio y hacerlas parte de nuestra propia vida. Hay muchas otras cosas que están involucradas con estas palabras, y animo a cada uno de nosotros a orar por ellas y ver qué más pueden significar en su vida porque al final oro para que nuestras últimas palabras sean: "Señor, yo te amo."
