Do you Trust?

by Fr. Michael Applegate

So how much do you trust? Do you trust your spouse, your family, your God? But first a check-in, how is your Lent going? How are you doing with walking with and acting like Christ? What is something that you need to improve or do better at? Now is the time to do it. We can do better and what else can we add to help us walk with and act like Christ.

Trust is one of those things that we as humans may or may not do because we all have trust issues to a point. We might trust someone and then something happens and we do not trust them ever again. We always think that they will do something bad again. Or some people just do not trust at all, and everyone must be found trustworthy before they think about trusting them.

All humans have trust issues, but God, that we do not see or might not know how he talks to us, asks us to trust him, to trust what he is doing in our lives and trust that he is working for us, even when we do not see any progress. This is tough, especially for people that do not trust, and I think the only way that they might trust God is if they have personally been touched by God, that they have felt his love and presence and know that he is there.

Brothers and sisters, which one are you? Do you trust God and allow him to work in his time? Because that is the other side of trust, is that we allow God to work in his time, not ours, but his time. He is working in our lives if only we do not presume what he will do by what we ask. Ask and try not to expect him to do it the way that we want it. Allow God to be God and try not to dictate how you want it done because we will probably get it wrong anyways. Trust God to do what is better for us and get out of the way.

This is difficult to do at times, but it is doable. We can learn to trust God and allow him to work in our lives. Try to pay attention to what is happening in unexpected ways. He is working, but we might be looking for something else. Trust God.

I think this is something that we all can work on this Lent because with our walk with Christ, we are allowing him to guide us and just walking with him. He is leading the way, and we are following. When we trust God to lead us to where we need to be, sometimes we just need to give up fighting and allow God to lead us. Allow him to point us in the direction that he wants us to go and try not to turn it another direction.

Trust is something that can be difficult in just trusting humans, but trust God, whom we do not see or talk to, is even more. He is working in our lives and helping us, but sometimes we just do not pay attention, or we try to turn another way. Walk with Christ and allow him to guide you where you need to be.
